Would you like to spend time somewhere different which offers you a lifestyle change but still progress your career? Cornwall could be the place for you.
We are delighted to be extending our successful and innovative clinical fellow program to a broader range of specialties this year. Our Trusts can offer you exciting opportunities for clinical and professional development post Foundation or Core training.
We recognise that many trainees want to broaden and extend their clinical skills and experience before finally deciding on a training route. Our clinical fellow posts offer the chance to do this in a supportive environment, with excellent clinical supervision and educational support and many opportunities to extend your non-clinical skills and enhance your CV with involvement in high quality undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, established research teams and innovative quality improvement projects.
Cornwall has an excellent reputation for education, with a welcoming and innovative Department of Postgraduate Education incorporating clinical skills training, resuscitation training, multidisciplinary learning, quality improvement and an award winning simulation team. We work closely with the University of Exeter, whose clinical medical students are based at RCHT.
Our past and current clinical fellows have worked on a wide range of interesting and valuable projects including ward based simulation teaching, development of innovative student programs, internationally recognised research work and quality improvement in trauma and resuscitation services. They have presented at national and international conferences, qualified as ILS instructors, taught in Ethiopia with the medical school and led on redesign of the Foundation program skills teaching. The experience and skills they have gained have enabled them to move on to specialty training posts or further career development with highly competitive CVs and portfolios.
Whilst these are not designated training posts, you will have educational and clinical supervision and structured support with medical appraisal and career development, together with access to additional training as required to fulfill your education or research role. You will also have access to some study leave, funding and bursaries.
Applicants will be required to have experience of working within the NHS as a junior doctor with completion of Foundation training competencies. You will require current ALS and will also be GMC registered with a licence to practice. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time or those wishing to job-share
Cornwall is a beautiful and picturesque county which offers an outstanding quality of life and provides many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, running and cycling. There is a thriving arts and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including nationally renowned restaurants. The major route in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter. There is an excellent rail service with daily passenger and sleeper services and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.
