Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.   The Post is for a 12 Month Fixed Term Period with the possibility of extending further.

An exciting opportunity has opened up to join the dynamic Acute Medicine team at Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust who are actively seeking to review and develop their services in line with the changing demand. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who will join a team of 9 Consultants in developing and delivering acute medical services. The team promote best practice in the management of emergency medical admissions, discharges and admission avoidance. 

The post is for a 10 basic Programmed Activities (PAs). There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to pursue a special interest within other medical specialities and we will explore options of a split role with another specialty if possible. 

The department is actively involved in the delivery of the education programme of the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry [PCMD] and this post will be part of this provision.  Consideration will be given to a suitable applicant being awarded a senior honorary academic title with the PCMD. Subject to academic performance, a joint academic/clinical appointment might be possible in the future. 

For new consultants the job plan for this post will include 2.5 SPAs for the first year. 

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life and providing many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, and cycling.  There is a thriving arts and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including celebrity-owned restaurants within Cornwall.  The major route both in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter.  There is an excellent rail service with daily passenger and sleeper services, and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.

Applicants are required to be GMC Registered with a Licence to Practice.  Being on the GMC Specialist Register would be an advantage, but not essential.  Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
