The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is a developing Trust situated in the beautiful county of Cornwall serving a population of around 500,000 people, its not surprising that with its beautiful coastal scenery Cornwall attracts around 3.5 million visitors each year, making it one of the top UK tourist destinations.

With increased activity and demand for high quality patient centred care we are expanding our perioperative teams and have a vacancy for personnel working in the operating theatre who have previous operating theatre experience.

The Unit comprises of 2 theatres which undertake various specialties from general surgery to Ophthalmology. We are open Monday to Friday with occasional Saturday working. The successful applicant will be expected to rotate to cover the weekend working.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals wishing to develop their skills in the Surgical Services Division. The role of the Assistant Practitioner is to support the multi-disciplinary team and is paramount in ensuring the smooth running of the theatre service. 

The Band 4 Assistant Practitioner role will include: Participate in the delivery of patient care; c ontribute towards ward/department organisation; Give support to registered nurses and operating department practitioners in the provision of a safe and caring environment; assist in the induction, supervision and training of Health Care Support Workers Band 2, Health Care Assistants Band 3 and student Assistant Practitioners. 

The role of Assistant Practitioner Band 4 will demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse operating department practitioner in charge and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies.The successful applicant will undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent to include acting as the scrub practitioner for designated cases undertaking swab, needle and instrument checks in line with Trust policy.

Theatre is a busy environment and will require the ability to multi task and work under pressure.
