We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and innovative individual to work in the Urgent Care Centre and Acute GP Clinic in West Cornwall.  These posts are based at the West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance and will include occasional clinical sessions in the Emergency Department at The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro for Training, supervisory and CPD purposes.

The 24/7 Urgent Care Centre was launched in Spring 2012, bringing together the current Casualty Department, a new Acute GP Clinic together with enhanced diagnostic and radiology support.  The hospital has regular support from both Consultants and Acute GP Services in Truro.  Clinical services will be run by Emergency Department Specialty Grade Doctors, Nurse Practitioners Urgent Care GPs and junior medical staff.

The successful applicant will contribute to the development of this exciting venture dovetailing local primary and secondary care services to ensure that appropriate urgent clinical services are delivered closer to patients’ homes.

Applicants will be qualified GPs with acute medical experience and a desire for innovation. Training will be provided prior to commencement of clinical duties in addition to a generous CPD and remuneration package. There will also be opportunities to teach undergraduates from the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry.

Applicants will be required to contribute a minimum of 1 clinical shift per week on a rota, combined with Emergency Department Specialty Grade Doctors.  Some weekend working will be required together with out of hour’s sessions, which attract additional remuneration.

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life and providing many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, and cycling.  There is a thriving art and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including celebrity-owned restaurants within Cornwall.  The major route both in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter.  There is an excellent rail service with daily passenger and sleeper services and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.
